What to Pull From Your Kid's Closet Before Back-to-School
If your house is anything like the ones we see walk through our doors every August, the start of the school year comes with a familiar realization: half the closet doesn't fit anymore. Shorts that were fine in May are suddenly capris. That one hoodie is a crop top now. And somewhere in the back, there's a stack of clothes with tags still on that never even got worn.
Before you pack it all into a donation bag or shove it to the back of a closet, take ten minutes to sort it. Right here in Historic Downtown Denison, we make it easy to turn that pile into cash or store credit, and to send it home with another family in the Texoma area who needs it.
The 5-Minute Closet Sort
You don't need a Pinterest-worthy system for this. Just grab a laundry basket and pull anything that fits into these categories:
- Anything with the tags still on. If it never got worn because it didn't fit right or wasn't quite their style, it's ready for a new home.
- Last year's sizes. If it was snug in the spring, it's not making it through fall. Pull it now before you're digging through it again in October.
- Skipped seasons. Some sizes get outgrown so fast that a kid skips a whole season entirely. If they went from spring into summer clothes without ever wearing last year's fall pieces, those are easy pulls.
- Barely-worn shoes. Kids' feet grow in bursts. Shoes with plenty of life left in the soles are some of the easiest things to consign and some of the first things to sell.
- Duplicates. Five nearly identical graphic tees or one too many pairs of leggings. Keep the favorites, let the rest move on.

Donating is generous, and there's nothing wrong with it, but consigning does something donating can't: it puts a little money back in your pocket while keeping good, gently-used items in circulation right here in our own community. Instead of clothes sitting in a bin or ending up in a landfill, they go straight to another Texoma family who's looking for exactly what you're letting go of. It's a small, practical way of taking care of each other.
And if the alternative you're weighing is listing everything on Facebook Marketplace, you already know the drill: photographing every item, answering the same messages over and over, and coordinating a handoff with a stranger, all for a sale that might fall through anyway. Dropping a bag off with us takes minutes, and you walk away without the back-and-forth.

You don't need an appointment. Walk-ins are always welcome, so if you've got a bag in the trunk, you can swing by whenever it's convenient. If you'd rather plan ahead or bring a larger load, we're happy to schedule an appointment too. Either way works.
Once you drop off, we go through your items and let you know what we're able to take. From there, you can choose to receive cash or store credit for what sells. We keep the details simple in person, just ask us about current rates when you stop by and we'll walk you through it.
